Essential life-saving equipment for a pool includes items required for water rescue and first aid. Key items are: a reaching pole (shepherd's crook), a ring buoy (life ring) with a throw line, a backboard or spine board with head immobilizer, a first aid kit, and an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). A rescue tube is also common for lifeguards.
